A leading first generation entrepreneur, Sumant Sinha is the Founder, Chairman and Managing Director of ReNew Power – India’s leading clean energy company. He started his career as an investment banker in the US and UK, working with leading global banks. Subsequently he returned to India to work in senior leadership positions in the Aditya Birla Group and Suzlon. Sumant founded ReNew Power in January 2011, with a vision to transform the way energy is produced and consumed in India. Since then, under his leadership, ReNew Power has grown exponentially to emerge as one of India’s leading renewable power producers with more than 10,000 MW of commissioned and under-construction, wind and solar capacity. Sumant is a passionate advocate for solutions related to climate change. He is a member of the Stewardship Board on Shaping the Future of Energy at the World Economic Forum, serves as the Chair of The Climate Group’s India Advisory Board and a member of the Board of Directors of the US India Strategic Partnership Forum (USISPF). As a prominent voice for the RE sector in India, he chairs the CII’s Renewable Energy Council. Sumant is also on the Board of Governors of IIT Delhi, IIM Calcutta and the School of International & Public Affairs at Columbia University. He is also an alumnus of the same 3 prestigious institutions. For his achievements in the area of entrepreneurship and clean energy, Sumant has won several awards including the coveted “Economic Times Entrepreneur of the Year Award, 2018”, “EY Entrepreneur of the Year, 2017”and the “Outstanding Start-up of the Year” – Forbes India 2017. Sumant has also received IIT Delhi’s “Distinguished Alumnus Award,2018”and “IIM Calcutta Distinguished Alumnus Award, 2019”.
